New Bergen Justice Center Garage Officially Opens In Hackensack

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Bergen County notables turned out to cut a large red ribbon that signaled the official opening of a much-needed 650-space parking garage at the new Justice Center in Hackensack on Oct. 9.

Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino is among those applauding as County Executive Jim Tedesco cuts the ribbon officially opening the new county Justice Center garage.

County Executive Jim Tedesco cut the ribbon with a pair of over-sized scissors after thanking many in the construction crew -- as well as county administration who, he said, made it possible for the five-story parking deck to open on schedule.

The structure replaces a former lot behind the courthouse, where lawyers, jurors, visitors and others have parked for more than half a century.

Now that the garage is open, the county will end its lease with The Bergen Record for parking spaces at the newspaper's former River Street location.

Parking in the new garage is free -- temporarily.

Once pay stations are complete, it will cost $4 the first hour and $1 each additional hour.Attendees at Friday's event included County Executive Jim Tedesco, Superior Court Assignment Judge Bonnie Mizdol, Prosecutor John Molinelli, Sheriff Michael Saudino, Surrogate Michael Dressler, DPW Director Ray Dressler, Freeholder Chairwoman Joan Voss, County Clerk John Hogan, and Freeholders Tracey Zur, John Felice and Tim Sullivan.
