The most prestigious environmental achievement award offered by Practice Greenhealth, the Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award recognizes health care facilities that exemplify environmental excellence and are setting the highest standards for environmental practices in health care. HackensackUMC is the only hospital in the New Jersey/New York area to win this award three years in a row.
"I want to congratulate Deirdre Imus and our entire sustainability team at the Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center for their hard work and dedication," said HackensackUMC President Dr. Ihor Sawczuk. "Our sustainability program grows stronger each year as a result of a truly collaborative effort. We are proud to be recognized for our commitment to the health and safety of our patients and staff, environment and wider community."
HackensackUMC, in collaboration with the Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center, is committed to identifying, controlling and ultimately preventing the toxic exposures in the environment that threaten the health and well-being of children, their families and the community.
HackensackUMC was recognized as a Top 25 honoree for its continued commitment to sustainability in health care practices, as well as a Top 10 honoree for its approach to leadership, safer chemicals and environmental purchasing.
"Environmental awareness is an important part of our culture at HackensackUMC," said Kyle Tafuri, senior sustainability advisor at the Deirdre Imus Environmental Heath Center. He accepted the award on behalf of the medical center, along with his colleagues, Jose Lozano, chief of staff and VP for Corporate Services and Governance for Hackensack University Health Network; Ken Haber, director of Environmental Health and Safety at HackensackUMC; and Caricel Lebron, supervisor of Environmental Services, HackensackUMC.
These awards were presented in Dallas on May 19 at the CleanMed Conference and Exhibition.
