Authorities pinging his phone said Steve Stephens -- who'd become the focus of a nationwide manhunt -- was headed east through Pennsylvania, possibly to New York State when a tip came in around 11 a.m., Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams told reporters.
Stevens had been seen in a McDonalds parking lokt near Erie, PA -- about 100 miles away, the chief said.
Seeing the responding officers, Stevens sped off, Williams said.
They caught up to him two miles down the road, where Stephens shot himself, the chief said.
A medical examiner pronounced him dead at the scene, he said.
