All Access Committees Created In Hackensack, Hillsdale, Oakland

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco on Wednesday officially announced the recent formation of Access for All Committees in Hackensack, Hillsdale and Oakland, comprised of advocates who include residents with disablities and members of both the local recreation and school boards.

They join 20 others that already have been formed in Bergen County, he said.

"The goal is to create such a committee in all 70 municipalities," under the auspices of the County Division on Disability Services, Tedeso said.

"Removing barriers, embracing universal design concepts, having local support and input on challenges the town is faced with concerning accessibility can be part of the mission, he said.

Each committee includes residents with a disability (or representing a family member with a disability), a council member, an OEM official, and representatives of recreation departments, boards of education and others chosen from various departments.

Access For All Committees have also been established in Ridgewood, Paramus, Park Ridge, East Rutherford, Lyndhurst, North Arlington, Rutherford, Glen Rock, Ramsey, Fairlawn, Fort Lee, Hasbrouck Heights, Hillsdale, Bergenfield, Tenafly, Englewood, Maywood, Montvale, Wyckoff and Waldwick.
