There's no need to shop for seeds at a garden center. Just pay a visit to Westport Library's free seed library and exchange.

"A lot of libraries in Fairfield County are starting to provide a seed library as another way to help our community by promoting sustainable culture and growing," said Liz King, reference librarian.

Seeds are currently available for onions, cabbage, peppers, tomatoes and much more, as well as for an assortment herbs and flowers.

The seeds — with hundreds to choose from — are kept in a seed catalog in the reference section.

The seeds come from Seed Savers Exchange in Iowa.

Returning a new supply of seeds at the end of the growing season is appreciated but not required.

Seeds will be available until the planting season ends, according to King.
