The celebration and flag-raising at One Bergen County Plaza were scheduled by the county LGBTQ Advisory Committee, established last year.
“We are proud to honor the history and the progress of the gay rights movement and celebrate this important group within the Bergen County family," Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco said.
"It is also an opportunity to stand in solidarity against bigotry, violence, and discrimination and reaffirm our commitment to equal rights for all,” he said.
“With the tragedy in Orlando and all that is happening nationwide, this event serves as a powerful message that Bergen County is a place where diversity is embraced and where everyone has a seat at the table," added Freeholder Vice-Chairwoman Tracy Zur, the freeholders' liaison to the committee.
