Body Recovered At NJ Beach ID'd As Missing Boater Derek Narby: State Police
The body recovered at Point Pleasant Beach has been identified as the 21-year-old missing boater lost in Manasquan Inlet after his fishing vessel capsized earlier this month, authorities said. On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the body was positively identified as Derek Narby of Brick Township, according to Detective I Jeffrey Lebron, a New Jersey State Police spokesman. Troopers were dispatched to Channel Drive in Point Pleasant Beach at 3:05 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 on a report of an unidentified body found washed up onshore, the State Police said. Swimmers Rescued Off Jersey Shore Beaches
There have been at least three water rescues this past week along Avon beaches, according to authorities and news reports. The first rescue of a pair of swimmers from rough surf came Saturday, Sept. 16 off Sylvania Avenue beach and was led by ANSWER — the Area Network of Shore Water Emergency Responders water rescue team. At 9:22 p.m., the ANSWER Team responded to Avon for a report of someone yelling for help, the team said on Facebook. Authorities ID Missing Boater As Brick Man, 21
A 21-year-old man from Brick has been identified as the boater who went missing last week in Manasquan Inlet, authorities said. Derek Narby has not been located, New Jersey State Police said Monday afternoon, Sept. 18. The vessel was struck by a wave and capsized, the U.S. Coast Guard said. The boat sank, and two others aboard were rescued. Jersey Mike's Subs and a drive-thru Starbucks are coming to a Jersey Shore shopping center, the Asbury Park Press reports. The sub shop and coffee chain will be in a newly-constructed building at Whiting Commons off Lacey Road in Manchester, the outlet said. The new building also will include an AT&T store. One person died and multiple families were displaced by two fires in Monmouth County this week. The fatal fire broke out at the Angle Inn Mobile Home Park on Route 33 around 11:30 p.m., where a trailer had erupted in flames, the Asbury Park Press says citing a spokesperson with the county's prosecutor's office. A tanker truck disrupted the flow of fuel on Route 37 near Farm Street on the Jersey Shore, authorities said. The report came in at 3:33 p.m. saying that the tanker was leaking gasoline and possible exposure was involved, initial reports said. The federal government is investigating NJ veterans homes where hundreds of veterans -- as well as nurse -- reportedly died of COVID-19. Six Flags Water Slide Rider Hospitalized In Labor Day Incident
A park-goer is to blame for leaving another visitor injured after riding a slide at the Six Flags Great Adventure Hurricane Harbor water park on Labor Day, news reports say. One guest jumped out of the tube, causing it to overturn on the Tornado funnel slide, park spokeswoman Kristin Fitzgerald told NJ Advance Media. The adult victim was hospitalized with back pain, the Asbury Park Press reports. The 75-foot-high slide drops visitors down a 132-foot tunnel at about 35 feet per second, the Six Flags website says. A New Jersey appeals court has thrown out the attempted murder conviction of a Monmouth County man who is serving 50 years in Trenton State Prison for allegedly shooting another man.
