'Heartless And Despicable': NJ Broker Who Scammed $3.7M From Gold Star Families Sentenced
A former Army financial counselor from Colts Neck will spend more than a decade in prison after admitting to scamming Gold Star families out of more than $3 million, authorities said. Caz Craffy, 42, was sentenced on Wednesday, Aug. 21 to 12 years and seven months in prison, New Jersey's U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger said in a news release. He pleaded guilty to 10 charges on Tuesday, Apr. 16. Craffy, who's also known as "Carz Craffey," had been a major in the U.S. Army Reserve since 2003. A New Jersey man has been identified as one of the three U.S. Army Reserve soldiers killed in a drone attack in Jordan over the weekend, the Department of Defense announced. Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46, a Willingboro native, died alongside Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, GA, and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia, the DOD said. New Jersey Senate Republican Conference Leader Anthony R. Bucco (R-Morris) died Monday. He was 81 years old. Bucco died of a heart attack at Saint Clare's Hospital in Denville, a spokesperson for the family said in a statement. A Boonton native, Bucco served in the New Jersey New Jersey Senate since 1998 representing the 25th Legislative District. Bucco served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1957 to 1965. Derrick Nelson, a longtime educator who was appointed principal of Westfield High School two years ago, died Sunday night, Superintendent of Schools Margaret Dolan said in a message to parents. He was 44 years old. "Dr. Nelson touched us all with his kindness, compassion, integrity and endlessly positive attitude.
