A tractor-trailer fire temporarily closed northbound Route 17 in Mahwah near the New York State border early Wednesday afternoon. The driver got the TruBlu Logistics rig to the shoulder and hopped out before flames began consuming the tractor just south of the Route 287 merge shortly before 2 p.m. May 10. UPDATE: A resident conducting an illegal burn on a hill overlooking Greenwood Lake ignited a rapidly-spreading brush fire Saturday that engulfed one home, damaged two others and sent two firefighters to the hospital, authorities confirmed. A driver told police that an attendant at a Route 17 service station groped her, said authorities who are trying to determine whether there are any other alleged victims. Pair OK After Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing In North Jersey Field
Two people aboard a small plane survived an emergency landing late Sunday afternoon in northwest New Jersey, State Police confirmed. A distress call was transmitted from the craft over Lake Hopatcong in Sussex County just after 4 p.m., responders said. The Cessna 172 then landed hard in Lafayette Township, eight or so miles from Sussex County Airport and about 25 miles south of the New York State border, NJSP Lawrence Peele confirmed. The craft sustained minor damage, he said.
