A priest and former chaplain of a North Jersey Catholic school was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of six students, authorities announced Thursday. Salvatore DiStefano, 61, who most recently resided at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church New Providence, is charged with engaging in a pattern of behavior that threatened the welfare of six Oratory Preparatory School students, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Authorities: Jersey City Priest Groped Woman In Church
A Jersey City priest was arrested on accusations of groping and kissing a woman in his church, authorities said Monday. Donato Cabardo, 56, surrendered to authorities at the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in Jersey City Friday at 11 a.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Cabardo touched the woman's breast and buttocks and pressed his cheek against her cheek, kissing her cheek, hand, face and head at St. Paul of the Cross Church on Hancock Avenue between January and July 2020, Suarez said. A New Jersey priest who admitted sexually abusing a young girl was sentenced Monday to a plea-bargained four years in state prison. Fr. Thomas P. Ganley, 64, of Phillipsburg admitted abusing the girl from when she was 14 until she was 17, beginning in 1990, while he was a priest at St. Cecelia Church in the Iselin section of Woodbridge.
