A Teaneck police sergeant confronted by a disturbed man on a Bergenfield street was surprised when the stranger pulled out a large knife. "Kill me! Shoot!" the Portuguese native shouted in broken English to Sgt. Ronald Boswell and backup officers from both towns who rushed to the scene, Teaneck Police Chief Glenn O'Reilly said. Teaneck firefighters extricated six passengers following a New Jersey Transit bus crash Monday morning. The Manhattan-bound bus collided with a Jeep, which then struck a utility pole, on Teaneck Road and Ward Place near the National Guard Armory shortly before 8:30 a.m., Police Chief Glenn O'Reilly said. A Jeep occupant and four passengers aboard the #186 bus from Dumont to the George Washington Bridge bus station were hospitalized with injuries that the chief said weren't considered serious. Teaneck PD: Hackensack Man Lied In ID'ing His Son As Hit-Run Driver
A Hackensack man lied when he fingered his son was the driver of a hit-and-run pickup that struck and severely injured a Teaneck woman in a local shopping plaza parking lot, authorities said. Edward O. Asante, 49, "initially told us his son was the driver," Police Chief Glenn O'Reilly said Friday afternoon. "He now admits to providing a false statement regarding his son being the driver." Shots fired during a midnight brawl outside a Teaneck nightclub struck one victim, authorities confirmed Monday morning. About 15 people were fighting when police arrived at RAIN on Water Street behind Cedar Lane, Police Chief Glenn O'Reilly said.
