Two Ohio men were arrested late Tuesday night, Dec. 10, after they tried to rob a local jewelry store in Bergen County and then led police on a brief foot pursuit, authorities said. At approximately 11:37 p.m., Northvale police officers responded to a reported burglary alarm at 269 Livingston St., where they discovered signs of forced entry into a local jewelry store, police said in a news release. Gas Leak Forces Evacuation Of Teaneck Neighborhood Amid Bitter Cold
Well over a dozen homes in Teaneck were evacuated in frigid temperatures following a dangerous gas leak. Alerted by a resident, a PSE&G crew found high natural gas readings coming from the area of a home on Larch Avenue between North Street and Kenwood Place shortly before 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, Teaneck Police Lt. Authorities were trying to identify the body of an apparently homeless man who drowned Saturday in the Passaic River. Witnesses said the man didn't know how to swim, ignored friends' insistence that he not go in, then went under in a deep pond on the Clifton side of the river, Clifton Deputy Fire Chief Craig Hopkins said. Store Owner Charged With Endangerment For Selling Homemade Sanitizer That Burned Bergen Boys
UPDATE: Authorities on Tuesday charged the owner of a Bergen County 7-Eleven with child endangerment for selling a sanitizer she mixed herself using a commercial cleanser that ended up burning four local boys. Manisha Bharade, 47, Wood-Ridge also was charged with deceptive business practices before being released on a summons pending court action. Fire destroyed a Lodi commercial building Thursday night. The general-alarm blaze broke out shortly before 9 p.m. in the kitchen of a small building next to the one that housed the JDM School Uniform company and CCS Car Care Specialties on Main Street, Fire Chief Steven Cassiello said.
