: Cool-Headed NJ Dispatcher Talks Barricaded Man Out Of House
A personable police dispatcher convinced a barricaded Dumont man to surrender after a SWAT team and police from multiple departments converged on his block, authorities said. Officers from Dumont initially responded to the First Street home following a 911 call from the 33-year-old First Street resident late Tuesday morning, Police Chief Brian Joyce said. The caller asked for a SWAT team and the FBI, saying that he wanted to “show them something,” the chief said. The man wouldn’t say exactly what that was, then refused to come out, Joyce said. UPDATE: A driver who a Dumont teen said tried to lure him into his car is actually a local elderly good Samaritan who was offering him a ride, authorities said. The driver asked if he "wanted a ride," the boy told police. Police tracked down the driver, whom Mayor Andrew LaBruno called "an elderly gentleman known to pay it forward by offering goodwill and assistance to others, including transportation to the…

No one was hospitalized, LaBruno said. "We are extremely pleased no parties were injured or made ill due to the incident," the mayor said. A student captured a screenshot from a teacher’s monitor during the disturbing open group Zoom chat last month. “Who the hell is that kid with [the] gay gym teacher?” one asked. “Why is that kid with the gay gym teacher,” another wrote. "Is that her adopted kid? Who is gonna be all f----d up growing up watching 2 chicks kissing and …
