Joseph A. Randone of Garfield had a sexual relationship with the teen when she was 12, making him a statutory rapist, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said. (For an explanation, see: It’s still rape)
The 31-year-old roofer burst into the house Saturday morning, assaulted the girl, then took her to his own house, Molinelli said. But Garfield police moved quickly, arresting Randone and rescuing the girl, he said.
Randone, who served a year in state prison on drug convictions a decade ago, is being held on $250,000 cash bail, charged with stautory rape, kidnapping, burglary and child endangerment.
