'Look At My Face!' Mom Shouts At Garfield Child Molester Given 72 Years

GARFIELD, N.J. -- "Look at me! Look at my face!" the mother of a Garfield victim shouted at a Peruvian national before a judge in Hackensack sentenced him to 72 years in prison for molesting three girls ranging in age from six to 13 -- including a pair of sisters.

Chang L. Acuna must serve 10 years and two months before being eligible for parole -- minus a little over three years that he's spent behind bars so far.

Superior Court Judge James J. Guida called his crimes “specific, despicable, horrendous incidents.”

Mothers of the victims who testified in court on Friday alluded to other child victims who are afraid to come forward.

“What he did completely marked their lives," one mother told the judge. “I'm not completely satisfied but at least justice has been done, and this way is faster.”

Another family member: “Every minute, every hour, every day, every month month he spends in prison, he should remember what he did.”

“There are other victims who haven’t said anything because they are in the closet,” she said. “Now his wife is looking for a different husband, his son doesn’t have a father.

"Hopefully this will teach him not to be a predator dressed as a white sheep.”

Acuna qualified to serve part of his sentence in the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center at Avenel -- the state facility for sex offenders -- after spending at least seven years in state prison. He can then be civilly committed to the facility for an indeterminate period, possibly for life.

"The parole board will decide if and when he’s transferred,” the judge said.

A federal immigration detainer would force Acuna's deportation if he's released.
