Lt. Theresa Grillo and Sgt. Jorge Tronza responded to the 1:40 a.m. alarm, searched the perimeter of the Thomas Jefferson Middle School, then found the teen inside a clasrrom, Capt. Donald Scorzetti said.

Backup Officer Javier Hernandez took the boy into custody as he tried to walk out, he said.

Officer Daniel Gorab and Officer Andrew Mikhail checked the school, along with Bergen County Sheriff's K9 Officer Joseph Cutrona and K9 Radar, and didn't find any other possible suspects, Scorzetti said.

The boy was taken to police headquarters, where he "admitted to officers that the mountain bike he used to get to the school to commit this act was also stolen," the captain said.

Police released the boy to his father's custody pending juvenile complaints that will be heard in the Family Part of Superior Court in Hackensack.
