Ruiz invited the student to hang out with him during lunch and another period during the school day, and told her “not to tell anyone because this was between the two of them,” the letter says.
Whether his alleged actions rise to the level of child endangerment will be made by law enforcement authorities — most likely the Morris County prosecutor. Meanwhile, state officials are reviewing his teaching certification.
The Daily Record of Morristown said Ruiz’s salary was $45,695 in the 2007-08 school year.
A high school senior reported that Ruiz “had engaged in a ruse to get her to come to see him in an empty classroom and then followed up with several inappropriate text messages inviting her to ‘chill’ with him during lunch and block 4, and including an admonition not to tell anyone because this was between the two of them,” says the letter from attorney Marie-Laurence Fabian to the chairman of the state Department of Education Board of Examiners.
Her parents showed administrators the messages and Ruiz eventually too responsibility after claiming he left it charging in a classroom.
Ruiz also apologized for texting another girl who came forward, the letter says.
