Face of evil: molested a 7-year-old girl here and in Ga., authorities say

A molested 7-year-old girl led authorities to Robert Lewis Smith, 39, of Macon, Ga., whom investigators charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault, one count of sexual assault and one count of endangerment, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said. This isn’t the first time, they said.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit, under the direction of Chief Steven Cucciniello and the Teaneck Police Department, under the direction of Chief Robert Wilson, made the arrest Monday “after learning that [Smith] engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with a seven year old female acquaintance while visiting relatives.”

Smith, who is married and unemployed, is being held on $250,000 cash bail.

Police in Macon, Ga., are investigating similar charges in their neck o’ the woods, authorities said.
