GARFIELD, N.J. -- With phone scams increasing in number and sophistication, a CPA and investigator from the IRS both offered tips to Garfield seniors on protecting themselves.
Certified Public Accountant Howard Bookbinder and IRS Criminal Investigator Robert Glantz provided their expertise in the area of senior citizen scams during the Garfield Police Community Affairs Division's second Scam and Fraud Awareness Workshop at the Garfield Senior Center on Wednesday.
Topics included grandparent scams, Medicare scams and various other types of fraud."Education is the key to prevention," Police Chief Raymond S. Kovach said. "We look forward to offering future opportunities to empower the community."
