William Lyons of Garfield was carrying three window screens and a weed wacker that he’d just swiped from a Morris Avenue garage when Detective Dennis Serritella spotted him riding the scooter at the corner of Jewell Street and Pacific Avenue, Capt. Darren Sucorowski said.

He was also “highly intoxicated,” Sucorowski said.

Lyons was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center to detox. Police charged him with burglary, theft and possession of burglar tools.

Police in 2013 charged Lyons with trying to slash a neighbor who caught him stealing his ladder.
