Lewis R. Bruno, 93, Of Garfield

GARFIELD, N.J. -- Lewis R. Bruno, of Garfield, died Aug. 28. He was 93. 

He was born in Nutley, residing in Garfield for the past 61 years. 

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, member of the Garfield VFW and parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows RC Church, Holy Name Society member and the Hasbrouck Heights Elks. He was a former member of the Garfield AARP, Garfield Seniors, past president and member for 33 years of the Garfield Babe Ruth League, originating the 16-18 age Bergen County Babe Ruth League, and 2006 vice president of the Northern Valley Widow and Widowers Dance Club . 

He is survived by three sons, Lewis R. Jr., Frank J. and Joseph A. Bruno; one daughter, Rosanna M. Walters; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank and John Bruno; and three sisters, Grace DiGiovanni, Rose Diaz and Helen Bertuzzi.

Visiting hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield. The funeral is Saturday, arriving at the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, 188 MacArthur Ave., Garfield. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. 

In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting memorial donations for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
