GARFIELD, N.J. -- A lifelong resident of Garfield, Leon J. Surgent died Thursday, Aug. 4. He was 83.
He was an engineer with the New Jersey State Department of Transportation for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Daggett) Surgent; daughters, Karen McCrudden and Joanne Surgent; and grandchildren, John McCrudden, Jamie Surgent-Nahay and Katie McCrudden.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anne R.C. Church, 15-05 St. Anne St., Fair Lawn. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 would be appreciated.
