Katherine Joan Russo, 94, Of Lodi

LODI, N.J. –Katherine Joan Russo, a resident of Lodi, died Monday, June 20. She was 94.

Born in Paterson to the late Dominick and Fortunate Gaeta, she possessed God-given talent at an early age. She was a singer and sang under the name Kay Gaylord. She enjoyed a remarkable career as a big band singer, sang on the radio, made recordings and performed in clubs in the tri-state area. In addition, during World War II she toured and did USO shows.

In 1946, she married Leonard A. Russo. In her later years, she worked at The Record in Hackensack, where her husband worked for many years as well. 

Russo was a parishioner of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Lodi for 65 years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and served as the State Grand Region of the Catholic Daughters. In addition, she was a member of the Lodi Woman’s Club and the Lodi Seniors. 

She is survived by her children Judith Russo and Glenn Russo Sr..; and grandson Glenn Jr.

She was predeceased by her husband Leonard A. Russo; brother Anthony Gaeta; and sisters Edith Acquafredda and Antoinette George.
