Garfield YMCA Pre-K Teacher Dies

GARFIELD, N.J.– Susan "Suzie" Gallagher-Colurciello, a pre-school teacher at the Garfield YMCA and sister of Chief Executive Officer Patricia Gallagher, died at age 49, the organization announced.

"Suzie was more than a part of the Y-family for 15 years. She is the beloved sister to our CEO, teacher to hundreds of four year olds throughout her career at the Y, and friend to all who knew her," the YMCA said . "Suzie was part of the very fabric of the Y."

Visitation will be held 3-8 p.m. on Friday at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, N.Y..

A mass will follow 11 a.m. Saturday at at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 400 Maywood Avenue, Maywood, and be officiated by Reverend Lawrence J. Fama. The burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Susan’s memory may be made to Garfield YMCA, 33 Outwater Lane, Garfield, NJ 07026.

Gallagher-Colurciello, a longtime resident of Newburgh, NY, died at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood on Monday.

She was born in Passaic on April 26, 1967. She was graduated from Garfield High School and William Paterson University, where she earned her bachelor's in Psychology.

Gallagher-Colurciello married Andrew F. Colurciello on April 20, 1991 at St. Patrick's Church in Newburgh.

She loved the outdoors, vacationing, hiking and taking walks and working out.

She will be remembered for her "contagious smile that always lit up the room."

  • "Suzie was the best wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend anyone could ask for."
  • "Susan was beautiful inside and out, truly one of a kind. I am proud to have called her my friend and to have been a part of her life all these years. I will miss your smile, your laugh, our walks and talks".
