You know you’re from the Garfield, says a post on roadsnacks.net, "if you’re hangin’ with your hick click at the local bowling alley and you send your best friend to get cigs and he calls 30 minutes later to tell you he got arrested with a sack of weed after running a stop light."

Based in Durham, NC, RoadSnacks says it aims "to deliver infotainment about where you live that your real estate agent won't tell you."
Producing similar "surveys" in all 50 states, Road Snacks says it chooses white trash cities based on large numbers of white residents who are poorer than average, are high school dropouts and are busted for drugs.
It claims it also considers those with "higher than average" payday loan outlets and bargain stores, the number of single mothers on welfare and the percentage of violent crime.
Calling a city white trash "isn’t as derogatory as using other racial slurs," the roadsnacks.net story contends, "and in fact, the term has a bit of humor associated with it, making it the focus of pop culture."
To be fair, RoadSnacks listed three LEAST white trash places in New Jersey -- all of them in Bergen County:
- 1. Demarest
- 2. Upper Saddle River
- 3. Cresskill
At the same time, it listed The Most Ghetto Cities In New Jersey.
Passaic and Paterson are on that list.
The site cites Jerry Springer, Honey Boo Boo, Kid Rock, Eminem, Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite and even Cousin Eddie in the National Lampoon movies as examples.
RoadSnacks' 10 Most White Trash Cities In New Jersey:
- 1. Keansburg
- 2. Gloucester City
- 3. Garfield
- 4. Millville
- 5. Sayreville
- 6. Wildwood
- 7. Vineland
- 8. Phillipsburg
