"They come in and they're happy," Magielnicki says of the youngsters. "It's like a magical place for them. Adults are fun too but they don't have that excitement that a little kid brings."

Magielnicki, of Saddle Brook, graduated with a master's degree from Rutgers University and previously worked at the Ridgefield Park Library.

Right now, she's focused on two story-time programs for toddlers. Magielnicki hopes to expand it to older kids and eventually add other projects, reading groups or a newsletter.

There will be a meet-and-greet event for residents on Jan. 7 from 3 to 6 p.m.

Library Director Mary Jo Jennings said Magielnicki has been a positive addition to the community.

"She's very enthusiastic and has lots of ideas and plans of what she wants to do on various children's groups," Jennings said.

The next steps for children's programs in the library won't be decided solely by Magielnicki.

"I'm getting a lot of ideas from parents. They have a lot to offer, which is great," she said. "I like having the community involvement. I'd rather have something they're interested in. I like getting their input."
