The borough police Traffic Bureau took action after residents complained, Borough Manager Bruce T. Masopust said Wednesday.
"[The roads] were going to be speedways unless we put in stop signs," he told Daily Voice.
Willard Street benefits greatly from the project, which targeted mostly one-way streets (see list below).
A bicyclist was struck on the street, a resident there said.
"People don't pay attention," he said. "If they put down the phone, we wouldn't need stop signs."
A Farnham Avenue resident said drivers speed down Farnham and Willard Street and through stop signs "all the time."
The new stop signs are in placed on:
- Farnham Avenue at Warren Street;
- Farnham Avenue at Willard Street;
- Westminster Place at Willard Street;
- Westervelt Place at Willard Street;
- Burns Avenue at Willard Street;
- St. Joseph Boulevard at Leo Place;
- Central Avenue at Prospect Street;
- Central Avenue at Grove Street
