GARFIELD, N.J. — While the city around it may have changed, Barcelona's Restaurant and Bar in Garfield remains a place of familiarity.
Since 1939, Barcelona's has operated out of Harrison Avenue with a full Italian menu. The restaurant serves dishes such as ravioli, lasagna and more. The thin-crust pizza remains the most popular, according to Chris Larose, part of the family of owners.
Barcelona's was recently selected as a finalist in the Daily Voice's DVlicious Best Pizza in Bergen County competition. Voting continues through Monday, Oct. 26.
"We've had people who have been coming here for years for [the pizza]," Larose told Daily Voice. "Everybody enjoys it. We had a class of 1965 here."A lot of people came in who used to hang out here in their day and they said it's just as good as it was back then."
The restaurant maintains a family atmosphere, with plenty of regular customers, Larose said.
The congeniality extends to the staff, as Larose is part of five generations of his family to work at the restaurant.
Server Christine Corona, a 15-year veteran of Barcelona's, said she loves the atmosphere.
"We've never changed," Corona said. "Everybody who works here has worked here forever."
