Downed Utility Lines Spark Leaf Blaze, Cut Power To Norwood Businesses
Fallen utility lines knocked out power to several area businesses and sparked a leaf blaze in Norwood that was doused by firefighters on Monday. The lines fell in the area of Broadway and Livingston Street outside the Chase Bank shortly before noon. Norwood firefighters were joined by their colleagues from Closter, Demarest, Harrington Park, Haworth and Northvale, as well as borough police and EMS and the Closter Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Corps. Burning Wires Fall In Ramsey, Jam Area Traffic
Ramsey firefighters doused separate mini-blazes sparked Monday by downed utility lines blocks apart. Burning wires fell on Lake Street at Franklin Turnpike in front of Eastwick College and on Canterbury Drive, spreading to some brush. PSE&G shut down power to the area so that firefighters could extinguish the blazes. Lake Street was temporarily closed in both directions from Franklin Turnpike to Debaun Avenue, creating a traffic mess. No injuries were reported. Utility Lines Down Again On Route 17, This Time In Upper Saddle River
UPDATE: Highway traffic wasn't affected, but some businesses were after a tractor-trailer yanked down utility lines Tuesday afternoon on northbound Route 17 in Upper Saddle River. The 2:30 p.m. incident limited access to AutoSport, among other local businesses, authorities said. The driver was pulling out of the parking lot after making a delivery when the wires got snagged, Police Chief Patrick Rotella said. No injuries were reported, he said. Sparking Wires Close Route 46 In Lodi
Route 46 in Lodi was closed in both directions mid-Monday morning after downed utility lines caught fire. Heavy snow apparently brought the wires down at Condemi Motor Company, next to an apartment complex on the highway's westbound side. PSE&G responded along with police and firefighters. The utility reported a dozen or so customers without electricity as of 10:30 a.m.

Route 17 Reopens Shortly Before Dawn
Route 17 in Saddle River finally reopened around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, more than 14 hours after utility lines fell across the roadway, closing it. A utility pole "just snapped on its own," a responder told Daily Voice -- beginning a rush-hour nightmare that became an hours-long annoyance.
