Homeless Laborer Kicks Englewood Hospital EMT In Face In Ambo, Faces Severe Charges: PalPark PD A homeless day laborer from Palisades Park deliberately kicked a female EMT in the face as an ambulance took him to the hospital for alcohol treatment, authorities said. Police said they called the ambulance for Xavier Contreras, 41, under the provisions of a state law known as the Alcohol Treatment and Rehabilitation Act (ATRA). Area emergency responders are familiar with Contreras, an Ecuadorian national who'd previously been arrested for trespassing and various other misdemeanors over the past several years. Citizen Helps Nab Hit-Run Driver Who Struck Palisades Park Pedestrian, Police Say A driver who fled after hitting a pedestrian crossing a downtown Palisades Park street was tracked down and arrested by police after a good Samaritan followed him, authorities said. The 38-year-old Fort Lee victim was in the crosswalk as she headed across Broad Avenue when a Honda Pilot turning left from East Homestead Avenue hit her shortly before 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Detective Sgt. Alex Monteleone said. The Pilot then sped off south on Broad Avenue, leaving her in the middle of the road, he said. The victim was taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.
