An animal control officer for several New Jersey towns was arrested after leaving a dog to die in a Dumpster at a kennel he owns and operates in Mahwah, township police said. Authorities took Richard A. DuBarton III, 57, into custody and removed 47 malnourished and severely weakened dogs from the Aranwood Kennels after finding them locked outside in freezing temperatures, a Mahwah police complaint says. Firefighters doused a mulch blaze that spread to a Mahwah affordable housing development before it could do severe damage. The two-alarm fire broke out at the Ramapo Brae development off Stag Hill Road near Route 287 and the Ramapo RIver around 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 29. Township firefighters doused the Brae Lane blaze after it extended to one of the buildings. A drowned paddle boarder whose body was recovered from a Mahwah lake Tuesday has been identified as a 24-year-old local resident. Mario Morales had lost his grip and fell into Dators Pond at the foot of Stag Hill Road early Thursday evening, New Jersey Police Trooper Charles Marchan confirmed. Mahwah police found a shuttle van stolen from the Ramapough Lenape tribe ditched in a parking lot of a Route 17 hotel, authorities said Monday. A Mahwah man dumped water from a kiddie pool inside an apartment complex, then retrieved a gun that he used to threaten a teenager after a dispute over dog hair in the water, said police who arrested him.
