Unfounded Bomb Threat Locks Down Union County Vocational School: Officials
A North Jersey high school was put on lockdown Tuesday, April 12 amid a bomb threat, officials confirmed. No threats or devices were found during a search of the Union County Vocational Technical School on Raritan Road in Scotch Plains around 11 a.m., a county spokesperson said. The person responsible for making the threat on social media was later identified by police and subsequently interviewed, officials said. The lockdown was eventually lifted.

TikTok School-Shooting Threats Aren't Credible, Authorities Say
Several schools across the United States closed on Friday while others issued warnings and boosted security following what authorities said were unfounded threats on TikTok of a school shooting. The anonymous TikTok "challenges" -- which apparently originated in Arizona and didn't specify any school or area -- frightened parents from one end of the country to the other. Many said they were keeping their children home on Friday, despite assurances that they had nothing to worry about. Law enforcement agencies nonetheless boosted their presence at and around schools if for no other reason tha…

Police Boost Presence At Westwood Regional HS Amid Alleged Threats
Police beefed up their presence at Westwood Regional High School following what some considered a threat triggered by an incident between students. It began after an 18-year-old student allegedly stole a cellphone from a younger one, multiple sources confirmed. The alleged victim and a friend grabbed the older student and beat him in a school hallway after lunch this past Tuesday, the sources said. The incident was captured on school surveillance cameras and student cellphone video, they said. His assailants apparently didn't know that the older student had previously sustained a traumati…

Famous Boyz: Federal Prison Time Piles Up For Newark Street Gang That Sold Fentanyl-Laced Smack
A massive joint investigation continues to produce federal prison sentences for members and associates of a Newark gang that flooded a city neighborhood with fentanyl-laced heroin, committed street robberies and used social media to threaten would-be snitches. The Famous Boyz, a subset of the Brick City Brim set of the Bloods, used juveniles and social media to dominate the drug trade around the area of South 18th Street and 15th Avenue – an area they referred to as “8 Block,” “18th” or simply “8,” U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said. Gang members used social media not only to promote their …

Social Media Threat Involving Bombs, Guns, Suicide Vest Deemed A Hoax
Bergenfield police were trying to determine who authored a social media thread full of threats to kill people in a variety of ways in retaliation against Black Lives Matter. “We are aware of an alarming Twitter post going around social media,” Bergenfield police wrote in their own post. “We want to thank everyone who reached out to the department to report this. The matter is being investigated.” Similar posts -- with different names and the exact same wording -- have appeared on social media in recent months. The latest thread bore a name, a Bergenfield address and a time stamp that …

Police: 3 Lyndhurst Students Suspended For Football Game Beating, Delinquency Complaints Coming
Three 15-year-old Lyndhurst High School students were suspended for a brawl that left another teen injured at a football game last Friday, authorities said Tuesday. What Detective Sergeant Vincent Auteri called “an unfortunate physical altercation” occurred in the stands during the Golden Bears’ 21-20 home conference victory over Pompton Lakes. A 15-year-old boy was treated at the scene for facial injuries sustained when a group beat him, the sergeant said. "The victim is on leave from school while claims that he made [revenge] threats on social media are investigated," Auteri said. …

While the vo-techs in Bergen, Passaic & Morris went into lockdown, Garfield High School students and staff were sheltered in place Friday morning after police were tipped off to what was described as "a threatening post on social media." Sheriff: 'Screenshot Of Indirect Threat' Boosts Police Presence At Passaic County Tech
An incident that a law enforcement official is calling a "screenshot of an indirect threat" at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne was deemed not credible. Thursday's PCIT threat -- which resulted in an increased police presence Friday -- was separate from another at Morris County School of Technology in Denville. The Morris County campus was in lockdown for nearly two hours Friday morning causing a domino effect of precautionary measures in surrounding districts. "Out of an abundance of caution, we increased patrols in and around the school and are closely monitoring the situation,…

Lockdown Lifted, Morris County Tech Deemed Safe After Shooting Threat
A lockdown as the result of an "indirect threat" at Morris County School of Technology ended at 9:20 Friday, authorities said. Denville police and school officials were notified at 7:35 a.m. that an "act of violence" was going to occur at the E. Main Street school, Capt. Jeffrey Tucker said. An investigation and search of the campus that began as buses were arriving determined the threat was not directed at the school, the email said. Classes resumed with law enforcement on campus for the rest of the day. Several North Jersey tech schools had lockdowns Friday morning for precautionary mea…

Passaic Police Boost Security At High School After Unfounded Social Media Threat
Authorities increased security at Passaic High School on Thursday following a social media threat. The unfounded post said: "I'm shooting up PHS @2:30 on the set." Passaic police were joined at the school by Passaic County sheriff's officers. A lockdown wasn't considered necessary and classes were conducted as usual, authorities said. They also emphasized that social media chatter Thursday afternoon about a shooting was erroneous. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office was investigating along with city police.

Shooting Threat At High School Elsewhere Mistakenly Prompts Swift Action In Bogota
Bogota police and school district officials moved quickly after a threat made by a student in Georgia was mistakenly thought to involve Bogota High School. The online threat against “BHS” actually was directed at Brunswick High School in that town, Bogota Schools Supt. Damien Kennedy said Tuesday. Officials there took a 16-year-old boy into custody after they said he threatened on the AirDrop social media app to go on a school shooting spree. He had no intention of carrying out the threats, they said. Meanwhile, all was well in Bogota. “Our district takes all possible threats seriously an…

Ridgefield Park PD: Allegation Of High School Threat 'Non-Existent'
UPDATE: Ridgefield Park police early Wednesday said they'd found no concrete evidence that a district student told anyone of plans of violence against the high school. "We've exhausted any leads we had, which were complete hearsay at best," Lt. Joseph Rella told Daily Voice. "We don't have something brewing under the surface." He then issued a formal statement: On Tuesday, June 12, 2018 the police department was alerted to a social media post about the possibility of school violence taking place at the Ridgefield Park Junior Senior High School. The police department imm…

Threat At 'New Milford' School In Other State Had Bergen Officials Wary
NEW MILFORD, N.J. -- Initial fear was quickly addressed after authorities discovered that a Snapchat threat to "shoot up" schools in New Milford and Dover referred to towns of the same name in Connecticut and New York. "Earlier tonight we were alerted to a message posted on snap chat claiming that someone is planning to shoot up Dover and New Milford high schools," New Milford Schools Supt. Michael Polizzi wrote in a message to parents and staff Wednesday night. "Please note that after investigating this further, the reference is to Dover and New Milford, Connecticu…
