Maywood House Fire Doused
Residents, responders and the family cats made it out OK as Maywood 's bravest doused a house fire. The blaze ignited in the rear of the 1½-story wood-frame house at the corner of Palmer and Coolidge avenues shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13. Rochelle Park's fire chief was the first on scene, immediately followed by his Maywood colleagues. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Hackensack, Rochelle Park and Saddle Brook at the scene and from Garfield, Lodi and Paramus in coverage. Visitor, 68, Injured In Kessler Elevator Accident
A 68-year-old visitor to the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in Saddle Brook had to be hospitalized Thursday night after an elevator accident, authorities said. Authorities are trying to determine what exactly happened around 7 p.m. Sept. 28, said Police Capt. John Zotollo, the officer in charge of the department. The victim was riding the elevator with his adult son, having visited a relative at the Market Street facility, when the door opened and his arm and leg got stuck between floors, the captain said. Dog Rescued In Saddle Brook Fire
A house fire was extinguished Wednesday afternoon in Saddle Brook. A dog was rescued as Saddle Brook firefighters doused a basement blaze on Elm Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. April 26. Two people also were reportedly treated for smoke inhalation. Firefighters had it knocked down in well under a half hour and under control 20 minutes or so after that. The most serious damage was confined to the basement of the 2½-story, wood-frame home. UPDATE: A notorious stretch of southbound Route 17 remained closed after a tractor-trailer knocked a box truck onto its side at the border of Paramus and Rochelle Park. A driver escaped unscathed after a tree service truck rolled over near Bergen Community College in Paramus late Monday afternoon -- as borough firefighters and EMS were responding to a house fire three miles away.
