140 Cats Found In Cockroach-Infested Paterson Home: 'Worst Hoarding Case In Years'
Donna Moussa of Homeless Tails, a Wayne-based organization focused on trapping and neutering, says she gets about one hoarding case a year. The one was brought to her attention Thursday, Feb. 15 was the worst she's ever seen, she said. The case came in through the owner of a Madison Avenue multi-family home in Paterson, who put out a Facebook post saying he had 50 cats and needed help. Rescuers were able to save 38 dogs and eight cats found in a Virginia woman's pickup truck parked in a Sussex County lot — which was also carrying 40 dead animals, each one individually wrapped and labeled, authorities said. Six underweight kittens abandoned in a Paterson alley will soon be in need of loving homes. The four-month-old cats were found in a pair of carriers and were described as being emaciated by Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, who is caring for them. The questions into their story are endless: Where did these kittens come from? Who could keep kittens in their home and not feed them? What if they hadn’t been discovered? A 6-month-old puppy was rushed to the hospital with head trauma in a Paterson hit-and-run, officials said. Olive was found bleeding in the street with skull fractures around her sinuses, swollen eyes and a broken tooth after being was struck by a driver who fled the scene Saturday, Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge said in a release. “Despite the pain, her tail doesn’t stop wagging and she is incredibly sweet,” officials said. Several small dogs rescued from an illegal Scotch Plains puppy mill are in need of homes, Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge says. While dogs in a family of Pomperanians whose future adopters are waiting anxiously pending medical clearance, several Chihuahua puppies still need families, the Oakland-based rescue says. The gentle and shy puppies need a home prepared to give them care where they will feel safe and loved, RBARI said on Facebook. More than 130 animals were seized from an illegal puppy mill run from a Scotch Plains home that authorities said was in deplorable condition.
