Authorities Investigate Death Of NJ Man Who Plunged 450 Feet Down Palisades Detectives were investigating the apparent suicide of a 34-year-old Bloomfield man whose body was found at the base of the Palisades, 450 feet below the State Line Lookout in Alpine. Palisades Interstate Parkway police got a 911 call last Thursday from a friend of the man pointing to a Facebook post alluding to him committing suicide at the lookout, PIP Sgt. Body Of Renowned Researcher Who Drowned In Hudson Swim Between Tappan Zee, GWB Recovered UPDATE: The body of an internationally-recognized AIDS researcher and activist who drowned during the next-to-last-leg of a 120-mile marathon was recovered from the Hudson River, authorities confirmed. A kayaker alerted the NYPD after spotting the body of Charles Van der Horst, 67, of Chapel Hill, NC Tuesday morning, they said. It was brought to the Dyckman Street Boat Marina.
