2ND Wave: Newark Restaurants, Businesses Face New Restrictions As Covid-19 Spikes A spike in COVID-19 cases in Newark has sparked stricter measures across the city, Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced. As of Sunday, Newark had more cases than all other Essex County municipalities combined, Baraka said. "It's a desperate moment," the mayor said. "While I'm concerned, I'm not afraid. We are spiking and though we're not where we were, we don't want to be where we were." Charter Fishing, Boat Rentals OK'd By Murphy In Next Phase Of NJ Reopening Gov. Phil Murphy on Saturday announced the signing of a new executive order allowing charter fishing and boats rentals in New Jersey. The nonessential rental companies had been closed until now to stop the spread of coronavirus. “Even with social distancing, we’re confident everyone can have a safe and memorable summer,” Murphy said. NJ Reopening Nonessential Businesses For Curbside Pickup, Drive-Thru Events Allowed Gov. Phil Murphy announced he will be signing an executive order to reopen nonessential businesses and restart nonessential construction in New Jersey effective 6 a.m. Monday, May 18. Drive-thru events such as movies, drive-by graduation ceremonies and religious services will also be allowed under social distancing guidelines effective immediately.  Windows and sun roofs must remain closed if cars are within six feet of one another.
