Elizabeth MVC Locations To Reopen More Than Decade After Former Gov. Christie Closed It
A New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission center that closed more than a decade ago will reopen later this summer. The 7,000-square-foot facility will be located at 17 Caldwell Pl. -- off Broad Street and near the Union County Superior Courthouse -- in Elizabeth. Gov. Chris Christie's administration closed the Elizabeth MVC center in 2010 apparently in an effort to save taxpayers money. Mayor Christian Bollwage accused Christie of closing the office because he and other local officials did not support his legislative efforts. The new center will create 45 new jobs and process …

New Jersey Adds Gender 'X' Option For Drivers Licenses
The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is adding an “X” gender option to drivers licenses and non-driver identification cards. Gender “X” will indicate a gender is unspecified, and it will be offered alongside the existing “M” (male) and “F” (female) gender options on licenses and IDs. This is offered not only to New Jersey residents who identify as non-binary, but for anyone who prefers that their gender not be specified on their license or ID. The MVC previously announced the ability to change the M/F gender designation on licenses and IDs in February 2020, following passage of the “B…

MVC Mayhem: Enraged Patrons Slam Officials Opening Day In NJ
The promise of efficiency and shorter lines at New Jersey's Motor Vehicle Commission left many patrons feeling hopeless Tuesday morning, as centers reopened under a new system for the first time in months due to the COVID-19 shutdown. Personnel were deployed to the busiest agencies at 6 a.m. in anticipation of the long lines, officials said. The opening day, slated for June 29, was delayed by a week so issues with a new text notification system could be ironed out. But as patrons turned out in droves Tuesday in hopes of completing transactions they've been waiting on for months, things see…
