A pre-dawn police pursuit from Garfield into Elmwood Park ended with a crash, the arrest of a passenger carrying a gun and a search for the fleeing driver, authorities said. Authorities: Traffic Stop Turns Up Loaded Gun In Garfield
A Garfield man remained held after police found a loaded handgun in his car following an overnight traffic stop, authorities said. Officer Joseph Kopacz was backed up by Officer Jaime Vazquez after he stopped a Nissan Altima near the corner of Palisade and Van Winkle avenues shortly after 1:30 a.m. last week. Kopacz “detected a strong odor” of pot coming from the car and summoned a Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 Officer Sohrab Moussavian and Cash, who indicated contraband in the trunk, Capt. Alert Resident Helps Garfield Police Nab Paterson Van, Bicycle Thieves
Two thieves using a van stolen out of Maywood were snatching bicycles in Garfield overnight when a resident's call brought police, authorities said Thursday. Responding officers stopped the van on Route 46 and nabbed repeat offenders Jose Gonzalez, 40, and Emmanuel Bernard, a-30-year-old Dominican national. Both live in Paterson. A Spring Garden Lane resident alerted police to the thefts shortly after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Capt. Richard Uram said.
