Arrest Made In Home Arson That Killed Pet, Mahwah Firefighters Among Responders
A resident was arrested at the scene of a house fire across the state line that killed a pet cat and severely damaged the home while drawing companies from Mahwah, among several other towns. Ramapo police didn't immediately identify the 51-year-old resident, who neighbors said was taken into custody at the Dunn Road home in Airmont a short time after the fire broke out on Wednesday morning, Sept. 7. A raging fire ravaged a Mahwah home. The fire ignited in the attached three-car garage and raced through the nearly $1.5 million home set back off a long driveway near Young World Day School on Wyckoff Avenue shortly before 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1. The owner quickly got out and watched in anguish as firefighters battled the three-alarm blaze. Gym Fire Doused Off Route 17
Firefighters doused an early-morning commercial blaze off Route 17. The two-alarm fire broke out in a building that houses Powerhouse Gym on McKee Drive in Mahwah around 7 a.m. Firefighters had it knocked down in under a half-hour. Island Road was temporarily closed. No injuries were reported. Mahwah firefighters brought their fan boat to ventilate the building. Mutual aid responders requested either at the scene or in coverage included firefighters from Ramsey, Montvale, Ridgewood and Ho-Ho-Kus, as well as Hilburn, Hillcrest, Sloatsburg, Suffern and Tallman.

Franklin Lakes Police Car Struck On Route 208, Rockland Driver Charged With DWI
A wrong-way driver was drunk when he crashed his sedan into a Franklin Lakes police car on Route 208, authorities said. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured when the collision occurred near Ewing Avenue and Route 287 shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday. Behind the wheel of the 2009 Acura, Franklin Lakes Police Capt.
