52 Arrested In 'Elaborate' Cockfighting Ring In South Jersey: Police
More than 50 people were arrested after police broke up a large cockfighting ring in Atlantic County, authorities said. Galloway Township police executed a search warrant at a home on the 300 block of South Bremen Avenue on Saturday, Mar. 9, the department said in a news release. When officers arrived, a large group of people were there and many tried to run away before they were detained. Investigators found an "elaborate cockfighting operation" that included a fighting ring, seating for spectators, and several cockfighting kits. The ballroom of a luxury resort that's become a popular wedding venue in New Jersey is about to undergo a massive renovation. Seaview Hotel and Golf Club announced the start of a $250,000 project to upgrade the Bayview Ballroom. The 6,140-square-foot venue has a terrace overlooking the Galloway Township resort's golf course, Reeds Bay, and the Atlantic City skyline. Action News has released the names of the pilot and team photographer killed in a helicopter crash Tuesday night, Dec. 19 in New Jersey. Monroe Smith, 67, of Glenside, PA, was the pilot, and Christopher Dougherty, 45, of Oreland, PA, was the photographer, according to the news station. They had departed from the Northeast Philadelphia Airport before 7:30 p.m., in a Eurocopter AS350B2, headed toward Galloway Township, NJ, according to the FAA and 6abc. Three young children were locked in a hot car while their caretakers shopped at a New Jersey Walmart, authorities said. Cyndie Jourdain and a 17-year-old female, both of Galloway Township, had been inside the Egg Harbor Township store for approximately 45 minutes by the time police rescued the three crying children on Wednesday, June 8, local police said.
