An uncooperative stabbing victim couldn't keep Englewood police from identifying his assailant -- an ex-con who authorities said was carrying a gun when he was captured by their Teaneck colleagues. Tahref L. Folkes, 33, tried to duck them but was chased down shortly before noon Wednesday, police said. They also recovered a handgun that they said he stashed in a local store during the foot pursuit. UPDATE: Dueling protests involving more than 600 demonstrators divided over the war between Israel and Hamas outside an Englewood City Council meeting led to the arrests of five of them – all of whom are from outside the city, authorities said. A dreadlocked thief struck the owner with his own vehicle while stealing it in Englewood, authorities said. The bandit found the 2020 Range Rover running and unattended on Grand Avenue south of Englewood Avenue after being dropped off by another vehicle Tuesday afternoon, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said. The owner tried to stop the thief, who assaulted him with the SUV as he sped north before making a left onto Englewood Avenue, Torell said. Englewood PBA: Marchers Arrested After Interfering, Mayor Blasted, Independent Review Welcomed
UPDATE: Englewood’s PBA answered back on Wednesday, saying that leaders of a weekend protest march provoked their arrests by interfering in an incident along the route. Union leaders also countered reports that previous marches leading up to Saturday’s Black Excellence event had been peaceful. Tensions were quickly escalating Saturday when the organizer of a peace march in Englewood and a city police officer went chest-to-chest. Then things got out of hand. Man Shot In Englewood; Reward Offered For Information
A 29-year-old man was transported to the hospital after he was found with two gunshot wounds early Sunday morning, authorities said. Englewood police officers were responding to a disturbance on Bennett Road at approximately 2:30 a.m., when they heard gunshots a short distance away, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said.
