A trip to a North Jersey lake turned deadly for two swimmers on Tuesday, June 14. Bodies of the 17- and- 22-year-old Hispanic males were recovered from the waters of Mine Hill Beach in the evening hours, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said. The pair had gone in with a group at the sand pits around 5:20 p.m. and never came out, launching an intensive search that was complicated by the vegetation below the surface. A second-alarm fire that ripped through and destroyed a Morris County home Friday morning was spotted from two streets away, authorities said. Boonton Township firefighters responded to 73 Elcock Ave. as a Sheridan Lane resident reported seeing flames billowing from the home’s second floor around 8:30 a.m., the department said. Numerous fire crews throughout Morris County helped to douse a Tuesday afternoon blaze that broke out on the second-floor balcony of a multi-family home. The Boonton Fire Department responded to the call and requested a second alarm after observing flames billowing from the balcony of the two-story brick building in Boonton around 2:50 p.m., the department said. : IDs Released For Woman, 11-Year-Old Son Found Dead In Morris County Pond
Authorities have confirmed the identities of the 35-year-old woman and 11-year-old boy found drowned in a Morris County pond Tuesday evening. The body of Warda Syed and her son, Uzair Ahmed, were recovered from the Upper Pond section of Grace Lord Park in Boonton around 5:40 p.m., Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said in a release with other county officials. Syed’s younger six-year-old son was also found at the scene unharmed, though his name will not be released, Carroll said.
