Store Owner Charged With Endangerment For Selling Homemade Sanitizer That Burned Bergen Boys
UPDATE: Authorities on Tuesday charged the owner of a Bergen County 7-Eleven with child endangerment for selling a sanitizer she mixed herself using a commercial cleanser that ended up burning four local boys. Manisha Bharade, 47, Wood-Ridge also was charged with deceptive business practices before being released on a summons pending court action. Bharade mixed "commercially available foaming sanitizer, which was not meant for resale," with water in pump bottles -- unwittingly causing a harmful chemical reaction -- then sold them for $2.50 each at her store in River Vale, authorities said.…

Chlorine Gas Leak Contained At Fair Lawn Water Treatment Plant
Chlorine gas leaking from two canisters at the Fair Lawn Water Treatment plant on Saturday brought a host of responders and was quickly contained. Fair Lawn and Hawthorne firefighters and the borough Heavy Rescue unit were dispatched to the Cadmus Place facility along with Bergen County HazMat and an ambulance from Saddle Brook. Although some responders reported burns, none required immediate medical attention. No evacuations of area homes were evacuated. Ramsey Rescue Clears Chlorine-Laced Trash That Fell From Truck Near School
Hazardous materials technicians from the Ramsey Rescue squad cleared a pile of chlorine-laced trash that fell off the back of a garbage truck near an elementary school on Monday. Ramsey police, firefighters and Ambulance Corps members also responded to the Island Avenue incident near the Wesley D. Tisdale School. So did their colleagues from OEM, DPW and a Bergen County Hazmat team. "The scene has been mitigated without incident," the rescue squad reported. There were no injuries, the squad said.
