Woman who helped catch Leonia luring suspect looked 16, source says

THE INSIDE STORY: A Palisades Park woman who looks like a teenager led to police to a 65-year-old Englewood man charged with two luring attempts in Leonia last month.

The 29-year-old Asian woman “could easily pass for an adolescent,” a law enforcement source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon. “You could take her for 16.”

The source said self-employed photographer Jay Dorfman drove up to her yesterday afternoon in Palisades Park and asked what street was just ahead.

“Central Boulevard,” the woman told him.

“You want to get in the car?” she said he asked her. Then: “You want to get arrested?”

She declined, then took down his license plate number as he drove away

Then she went to police.

“She also got the make, model, color of the car — and described him to a T,” the source said.

Dorfman was being held on $350,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail following his arrest last night on four counts of enticing a child into a motor vehicle and four counts of child endangerment.

In addition, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli revealed this afternoon that Dorfman in January “approached adult females in Palisades Park and made sexually explicit comments to them” while exposing himself..

For that, he was charged with three counts of harassment and one of lewdness, the prosecutor said.

An investigation by his office in conjunction with Leonia and Palisades Park police led to the arrest of the 5-foot-7-inch, 180-pound Dorfman, Molinelli said, confirming a CLIFFVIEW PILOT report from earlier today.

Two different pair of girls said they were approached around the same time in Leonia on March 12 by a man in a light blue, 4-door, older model SUV with New Jersey license (SEE: Leonia police report second luring attempt, same man). The driver first asked for directions, then “made a very inappropriate sexual comment to them,” authorities told CLIFFVIEW PILOT at the time.

As it turned out, Dorfman, who is single, “made sexually explicit comments from his vehicle to an adult female [yesterday],” Molinelli said, referring to the young-looking Palisades Park woman.

After tracing the SUV, detectives obtained Dorfman’s driver’s license photo from the New Jersey DMV.

The woman was then shown the photo, which Molinelli said resembled the composite sketch made by police (below)
