Officer Rhett Peppi was on duty at 13th and Provosts streets in Jersey City at 2:30 a.m. Sunday when Karol Andino, 31, of North Bergen got out of her 200 Volkwagen Beetle, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo said.

"She said she was looking for New Jersey," he told Daily Voice.

Her eyes were read and watery, Pentangelo said.

While giving Peppi her driver's license, Andino volunteered she "had a few drinks," he said.

"She was unsteady on her feet and she was swaying," Pentangelo said. "She failed a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer test -- at over three times the legal limit -- and was arrested."

Andino was charged with DWI and careless driving and was later released to a responsible adult on a summons. Her car was temporarily impounded.
