Anthony Ruberto, of Highland, N.Y., was driving the 2012 Econoline construction van into the city on I-95 around 6 a.m. when the front on his side slammed into the right rear corner of the Pacific Logistics Corp. trailer after the rig slowed in traffic under the Center Avenue overpass, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Fort Lee EMS pronounced the victim dead at 6:15, he said.
Port Authority police were investigating.
Traffic delays of up to an hour were reported as the vehicles were removed and the roadway was sanded and swept.
The area was cleared by 10:30 a.m. All lanes were reopened.
Pacific Logistics Corp. (PLC) is based in California but has a regional office in Newark, although records show the tractor-trailer is registered in Mississippi.
