Christopher Monani, 23, moved to northwest Connecticut with a friend last October after what sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT was a falling out with family members.
Thanks to a Fort Lee jeweler, he became the key suspect in both a June 11 break-in on Jefferson Avenue and a June 15 burglary on Westervelt Avenue in Tenafly, police said. Among the items taken were a diamond wedding band, a laptop, an iPod and a credit card that ended up pointing directly to him.
Tenafly police were contacted by the Jefferson Avenue victim after Monani tried using his credit card to buy jewelry in Fort Lee, Capt. Michael deMoncada told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.
After reviewing surveillance video from the store, detectives obtained a warrant for Monani’s arrest.
He was later taken into custody by authorities in Kent, CT, near his Torrington home.
Monani was extradited to New Jersey yesterday and was being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, theft and credit card fraud.
