The 2012 Land Rover was left unlocked — with the key fob inside — when it was taken from the driveway of an Alpine residence sometimes between 6 o’clock last night and 2 this morning, Alpine Police Chief Christopher Belcolle told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Englewood Cliffs police tried to stop the vehicle a short time after it was taken, but the driver took off at high speed, Belcolle said.

It was found on Fletcher Avenue in Fort Lee, he said.

Belcolle repeated a message that recently has come from his fellow chiefs in Tenafly, Closter and elsewhere: Lock your car and do not leave a key or key fob inside. Car thieves have been trolling area streets in growing numbers, looking for easy targets.
