Prosecutor: Driver Who Struck, Killed Fort Lee Man, 86, Was Drunk

FORT LEE, N.J. -- A driver was drunk when her car struck and killed an 86-year-old Fort Lee man as he crossed Lemoine Avenue, authorities said Monday morning.

Christine H. Ko, a 22-year-old liquor store clerk from Ewing Township, was being held on $150,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with vehicular homicide.

Ruben Enukashvili was struck by Ko's 2011 Hyundai Sonata just before 9 p.m. Sunday as he crossed near Whiteman Street, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.

He was later pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Gurbir's Fatal Accident Investigation Unit investigated with Fort Lee police, the prosecutor said.

Besides the criminal charge, Ko was issued motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving, driving under the influence and operating a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol.
