One of them, 58-year-old Jermone Daly of Teaneck, owed $79,423 in unpaid tolls and fees covering 1,260 violations, the Port Authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.
Daly's unpaid tolls came to $16,423 -- and the fines jacked it up an additional $63,000.
Police arrested him just after 6 a.m. for blowing through a toll booth without paying -- and then again three and a half hours later after confirming the total arrears, Pentangelo said.
The second highest debt -- $61,623 -- belonged to Aleksanda Kotevski, also 58, of Garfield, who drives for Bucephal USA LLC. This covered 694 violations, Pentangelo said.
Kotevski was arrested just before 4:30 a.m. during what Pentangelo said was a special detail aimed at snagging violators and deadbeats. The initiative ran from 4 to 8:15 a.m.
Officers at 5:25 a.m. arrested 30 year-old Loida Cruz of Ridgefield Park, who they said owed $11,316 in tolls and fees covering 185 violations.
About 40 minutes later, they arrested Henry Tantllo, 52, of Elmwood Park, for owing $52 in tolls and $250 in fines covering five violations.
Tantillo was driving a motorcycle with a flipped license plate, Pentangelo said.
Others included 34-year-old Carlos Acosta -- also of Ridgefield Park -- who owed $3,672 in tolls and fees, driving a tractor trailer with a defaced license plate, he said. The same vehicle was stopped for a similar offense in November, records show.
